Unfortunately, there is currently a major shortage of dulse and we do not yet know when more will be available.

Dulse is soft and chewy, with a distinctive taste and a rich red colour. It doesn’t require any soaking or cooking, which makes it a great snack to be enjoyed right out of the bag. It’s a colourful salad ingredient; is tasty in soups; zesty when fried and boosts the flavor of any sandwich creation.

Maine Coast Dulse Flakes are milled from selected dulse that grows in well protected coastal passages where it is easier to harvest and gives higher yields. However, we cannot guarantee the hand-harvested dulse used for these flakes is free from pieces of shells or pebbles.

Maine Coast Dulse Flakes is sustainably harvested, low temperature sun-dried and chopped into flakes following specific organic standards established by OCIA, an international certifier. The product is also tested for chemical, heavy metal, petroleum, radioactivity, and microbiological contaminants.

Our Dulse Flakes are ready to use – no soaking, rinsing, cutting or cooking required!

Maine Coast dulse comes directly to you without processing or washing out any of its mineral richness. Please check for occasional tiny hidden pebbles or shells in the leaves. Store your dulse in this bag out of extreme light, heat or moisture. If uncooked dulse is too chewy for you, allow it to absorb some ambient moisture (steam kettle, damp towel, humid room) and in a few days it will be tenderized by its own live enzymes. Rinsing the dulse briefly will tenderize it more quickly and make the taste less strong. Cooking with dulse is a treat. It is fast and flavorful. Try pan-frying some leaves in a well-oiled skillet until they turn brownish and crisp. Kids love these “chips”. You can dry roast dulse pieces in a medium hot skillet or low oven until the leaves turn greenish- not black (burned!) Crumble them on grains, soups, pasta, pizza or popcorn.
